1. Submit Interest Form
Complete a short form so we can learn more about you, your university, and your interest in starting a chapter.
2. Meet with Helping Hands Leadership
Meet with our team to discuss the chapter model, expectations, available resources, and next steps.
3. Identify Student Leaders and Advisor
Build a founding leadership team and secure a faculty or staff advisor to support your chapter.
4. Complete Training and Planning
Receive chapter training, planning resources, and guidance to prepare for a successful launch.
5. Build Local Partnerships
Connect with local nonprofits, service providers, and community organizations that align with our mission.
6. Host Your First Service Event
Launch your chapter through a volunteer opportunity, resource drive, educational event, or community service project.

Do we need nonprofit experience?
Not at all. Many of our chapter leaders begin with little or no nonprofit experience. Helping Hands provides training, templates, resources, and ongoing support to help students successfully launch and lead a chapter. What matters most is having a passion for learning, serving, and making a positive impact in your community.
Can any university start a chapter?
Yes. Helping Hands chapters are designed for colleges and universities that have motivated student leaders, faculty or staff support, and a desire to serve their local community. Whether your campus is large or small, our team will work with you to determine if a chapter is a good fit and help guide you through the launch process.
What does a chapter actually do?
Helping Hands chapters educate students about homelessness, connect volunteers with service opportunities, build community partnerships, and organize events that provide dignity-centered support to people experiencing homelessness. Chapters may host workshops, resource drives, outreach initiatives, volunteer events, and resource fairs while helping students develop leadership skills and create meaningful local impact.
